Armed soldiers on Sunday invaded Daily Trust regional office in Maiduguri, Borno state and arrested the regional editor, Uthman Abubakar and a reporter, Ibrahim Sawab. According to the paper’s report, it was not clear why they took the action but it may be connected with the lead story of Daily Trust on Sunday on military operation in the North East. The newspaper learnt that the soldiers shut the gate of the Maiduguri regional office, after arresting the two editorial staff on sight at the time of the raid. A witness also noted that the soldiers requested to see Daily Trust’s Political Editor, Hamza Idris, whose byline appeared on the story.
Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has said his administration is probing his predecessor, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso over multi-billion naira 5 kilometre road projects. Ganduje, who made this known yesterday while inaugurating 12 campaign committees for his second term bid, said Kano State government had taken the matter to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He explained that the EFCC had gone far in its investigation into the matter in terms of how the money meant for the construction of 5 kilometre roads in the 44 local governments of Kano state were diverted for Kwankwaso’s presidential campaign in 2015.
