PDP Appoints Dino Melaye As Campaign Spokesman

Senator Dino Melaye has been appointed as the spokesman of the the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council for the 2019 election. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is the presidential flag bearer of the party, while his running mate is a former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi. The PDPPCC is chaired by the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki. The party on Thursday inaugurated the Campaign Council. Melaye announced his appointment as the Spokesman for the team on Friday morning on his Twitter handle. According to him: “Thank you PDP for my appointment as Director incharge of Civil Societies/NGO’S and Campaign Spokesperson in the PDP Presidential Campaign. We shall usually overcome. Light will always rejoice over darkness. Power to the People.” It could be recalled that Melaye was Campaign Spokesman for Saraki when he was contesting for the Senate Presidency in 2015. Both were in the All Progressives Congress then.

Strange Armed/Terrorist Group Appears In Sokoto

A new terror group, claiming to be Islamic preachers, has emerged in Sokoto State from the neighboring Niger Republic, a BBC Hausa report said. Quoting residents of the area, the report said about two months ago, members of the Islamic sect were spotted with guns around Tangaza Local Government Area of the state. A source who craved for anonymity said members of the sect had levied wealthy individuals in some villages and flogged people who contravenes Shariah. The source also revealed that more than 200 members of the terrorist group were “Fulani, white men and Arabs bearing guns and donning turbans”. “They visit houses to collect money from the residents. Those who own rams pay N200 while those that have cows pay N500,” said the source. The source also revealed that the militants reportedly trained some youth in the areas and gave them motorcycles after the training. FG Slashes JAMB, NECO, SSCE Exams Fees

The President Muhammadu Buhari Government has slashed the examination fees for Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB and NECO. The decision was reached at the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting on Wednesday. This was disclosed by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu at the end of the FEC meeting. According to him, the JAMB fee for the UTME will reduce from N5,000 to N3,500, the Senior Secondary School fee charge by NECO will reduce from N11,350 to N9,850 and the Basic Education certificate by NECO will reduce from N5,500 to N4,000. According to him, the new charges would become effective from January 2019. The police have arrested Deji Adeyanju, a political activist and convener of the group known as Concerned Nigerians. He was arrested in Abuja during a protest tagged: “Police Are Not Politicians, Save Our Democracy”. Deji was picked up alongside two others in front of force headquarters in the nation’s capital. The protesters had trooped to the streets to demand the neutrality of the police in the forthcoming general election. Some protesters were arranging the banners and placards meant for the rally when the police swooped on them. The police had on Wednesday barricaded the roads leading to the force headquarters to prevent the demonstration. Jimoh Moshood, police spokesman, later issued a statement on the arrest of the protesters. Super Falcons Qualify For AWCON Final, Beat Cameroon 4-2 On Penalties

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have qualified for the final of the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nation after overcoming the Indomitable Lioness of Cameroon on Tuesday at the Accra Stadium. PHOTOS:NASA InSight Probe Lands On Mars

NASA has successfully landed a probe on the surface of Mars. The InSight lander has sent basic communication information back to NASA and the probe is now waiting for the Martian dust to settle before it starts performing science. The landing went largely as expected. NASA's two cubesats were able to monitor InSight as it landed, these experimental satellites were useful because they sent live data back to Earth even while InSight was performing atmospheric entry. Entry went as expected, the heat shield seemed to be performing as expected and NASA was able to confirm that the parachute deployed as it should. The delicate part of the operation - the rocket firing - also seemed to go smoothly. The lander slowed as it should and appears to have landed correctly.
