ABUBAKAR BUKOLA SARAKI, CON,  ON 31ST JULY, 2018.    I wish to inform Nigerians that, after extensive consultations, I have decided to take my leave of the All Progressives Congress (APC). This is not a decision that I have made lightly. If anything at all, I have tarried for so long and did all that was humanly possible, even in the face of great provocation, ridicule and flagrant persecution, to give opportunity for peace, reconciliation and harmonious existence.  Perhaps, more significantly, I am mindful of the fact that I carry on my shoulder a great responsibility for thousands of my supporters, political associates and friends, who have trusted in my leadership and have attached their political fortunes to mine. President Muhammadu Buhari has emerged chairman of the Economic Community of West African State (ECOWAS). He was elected at the 53rd ordinary session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Lome, Togo. A diplomatic source had said at a dinner on Monday night, some of the West African diplomats had a long discussion with Buhari and persuaded him to run but senior government officials denied knowledge of it. The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, is currently at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) where he is undergoing interrogation over allegations of fraud and money laundering. A reliabls source at the commission confirmed to newsmen that the deputy senate president arrived at their Abuja office earlier today, saying “he was invited for questioning”. The source also said Ekweremadu was still in EFCC custody as of the time of filing this report. The Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has dumped the All Progressives Congress, APC, party. Governor Ahmed made know his decision just the same time the Senate President, Abubakar Bikola Saraki equally announced he has dumped the APC. In a statement by his media aide, Muyideen Akorede, Governor Ahmed said he decided to dump the APC after much consultations with the people of his state. According to him, “Following due consultations with the people and in response to calls by major stakeholder groups in the state, Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed today defected to the People’s Democratic Party(PDP), having realized that the All Progressive Congress (APC) can longer serve as a platform for achieving the aspirations and expectations of his people,” the statement said. Following criticisms that he staged his ‘purported’ kidnap, the lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye, has said he was attacked by policemen. Melaye claimed the gunmen who attacked his vehicle on his way to Kogi State on Thursday wanted to kill him. He alleged that his attackers were policemen. Speaking to newsmen on Sunday in Abuja, Melaye, said he escaped the alleged assassination attempt around Gwagwalada along the Abuja-Lokoja Road on his way to attend a court case in Lokoja, the state capital. Melaye said he ran into the bush and hid on a tree for 11 hours. The lawmaker explained that he left Abuja in the early morning of Thursday for Lokoja and observed that a Toyota Sienna car was trailing him. The Federal High Court Abuja, on Monday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), the All Progressives Congress, (APC) and the National Chairman, APC, not to conduct any congress in Imo until Aug. 21. The court also ordered the plaintiffs, Sen. Osita Izunaso, Sen. Ben Uwajimogu , Mr Mathew Omegara, Mr Hilary Ekeh and Mr Patrick Uzoukwu to maintain status quo until Aug. 21 The vacation judge, Jutice Babatunde Quadri gave the order following an application by Mr Ahmed Raji, (SAN), counsel to the plaintiffs. Raji had asked the court to order that all parties be restrained from conducting any primaries in the state, ward or local government until the next adjourned date of the suit. He said that if such and order was not made and the defendants went ahead to conduct the primaries before the next adjourned date, the suit would become an academic exercise. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dissolved the executive committee of its faction loyal to Senate President Bukola Saraki. Ishola Fulani Balogun, chairman of the group, has been replaced with Bashir Bolarinwa. The dissolution of the state’s executive committee was contained in a notice dated July 30 and signed by Adams Oshiomhole, APC national chairman; and Mai Mala Buni, national secretary of the party. The national working committee (NWC) of the party said the decision was taken following some irregularities.
